Tips To Combat Lag At Tournaments

Tips for participants and spectators at tournaments

There is also a class being held at the Kings Court Academy on this topic. Click here for the schedule

These tips are for everyone attending and participating in events. Every avatar present is pulling on the sim resources. So please feel free to pass a copy of this to anyone you invite or you feel will benefit from the information. These will assist everyone when going to crowded events regardless of where they are being held.

CAMERA SETTINGS
Check your camera setting especially if you’ve altered it for archery or other viewing assistance. Press Ctrl 9 on your keyboard to clear it..

SCRIPT COUNTERS
Always pay attention to the script counter if one is out at the tournament field, once matches have been seeded I would like for you to check your Scripts, Time & Memory against your opponents. Are you equal to or at a disadvantage compared to your opponent? If there is no script counter out then simply right click on the Avatar>More>More>Script Info. Their script info will show in Local Chat only visible to you.

AOs, WEAPONS & HUDs
Remove ALL WEAPONS and HUDs unless you are jousting then of course you need you lance and lance HUD attached. Press Ctrl>Alt>T for a quick look at yourself and those around you to see if anyone may have forgotten to remove their weapons. A quick and polite reminder to them in IM should be sufficient and you can always IM the Official to bring it to their attention preferably prior to the beginning of the tournament.

AO HUDs even when turned off cause lag, you must detach it completely for events. For those using Firestorm you are able to utilize the built-in AO for events, this causes no lag. Ask if you need assistance with this feature.

HAIR
It’s wise to wear a hair that is mod/copy. Make a copy for your tournament saved outfits then set scripts to not running. Right click hair, Edit>Build (at top of screen next to World tab) Scripts<set Scripts to not Running. You can always go back in this same way and set scripts to running.

If you have scripted items in your clothing, same thing if mod/copy or make a copy then delete the scripts throat the clothing menu if offered.

MAITREYA/MESH BODIES
For full body armors you should be able to detach your Maitreya body. If the armor comes with Bento gloves, detach both hands, you don’t need them. If you simply alpha them out they are still on your body adding to your script count. Completely detach hands, feet and body when they are not visible. I have a Classic body outfit folder saved with my Battle Warden Maitreya armor and Bento gloves work exactly the same on it and I am very low in scripts. Guys, I assume yours will work the same, experiment on it. And for guys and some girls they can completely remove their mesh heads and eyes and opt for just the helmet.

STATIC HORSE
A static horse will greatly reduce lag issues if you don’t mind riding one. It’s a great option for those that lag and crash often.

VOICE & OTHER PROGRAMS
If you suffer from extreme lag turn Voice completely off in your Preferences so it is not running in the background on your computer. Simply having your mic off does basically nothing.

Turn off all other programs such as open browsers, open documents, Microsoft Outlook, Skype, other games. All of these pull on your resources and can affect your performance inworld.

RELOGS
Please do this prior to the tournament as entering and leaving a region causes lag spikes and tournament delays. If you must do this prior to each of your matches please do it in between matches rather than during a match between passes so the official can be made aware and it’s not taking their attention away from the match in progress.

TIME REMINDERS
You have two minutes to be ready at the gate once your match is called and 5 minutes to return from a crash. It is at the complete discretion of the Official to extend these times but not a guarantee. It is each of our responsibilities to do the best we can so all have a pleasant inworld experience.
